Willow Pool Garden Tips
Drought Tollerant Basket
1. Place moss in the bottom of the basket and halfway up the sides. Fill with compost.
Carefully split the plant (Sempervivum) into smaller plants in order to fit through gaps in the side of the basket.
3. Feed the plants through the side of the basket from the outside in and hold in place with moss.
4. Now completley fill the sides of the basket
5. Now to plant the top of the basket you must create a wire frame to hold in the moss and compost. Weave wire around and across the existing frame to create a mesh.
6. Place moss on your mesh and around the sides. Thread plants through the sides and hold in place with moss as you did with the bottom of the basket. Again fill with compost and moss. You should complete this step first so not to make a mess in the main basket.
7. Its now time to plant up the main part of the basket. Remove plants from the pots. Move compost to one side to create a hole for your plant. Place plant in hole and firm down compost. Repeat untill your basket is full.
8. Choose drought tollerant plants to fill your basket.
I recommend vibrant colours to show off your basket(s). Like the clashing colours of Lewisia and clusters of Sempervivum.

Firstly you need to place a thin layer of moss on the base of the basket to stop any of the compost falling out. In the gaps at the base of the basket you can place trailing ivy plant to give a fuller effect.
Next, plant through a layer of plants, ie primulas and pansies and embed a layer of moss throughout for retaining moisture.
(No compost is required still at this point the moss will generate enough support).
Next, carrying on layering plants and pack gently within the moss.
Next , fill at the top of the basket a few inches of compost. Then fom a simple hole in the centre of the compost. You can add a cordyline or similar plant with height to create an effective basket.
of the cordiline with your chosen plants, so all the compost is covered.
Lastly, enjoy, well done !
