1. Place moss in the bottom of the basket and halfway up the sides. Fill with compost.

2. Carefully split the plant (Sempervivum) into smaller plants in order to fit through gaps in the side of the basket.

3. Feed the plants through the side of the basket from the outside in and hold in place with moss.

4. Now completley fill the sides of the basket with moss and place compost in the centre to fill.

5. Now to plant the top of the basket you must create a wire frame to hold in the moss and compost. Weave wire around and across the existing frame to create a mesh.

6. Place moss on your mesh and around the sides. Thread plants through the sides and hold in place with moss as you did with the bottom of the basket. Again fill with compost and moss. You should complete this step first so not to make a mess in the main basket.

7. Its now time to plant up the main part of the basket. Remove plants from the pots. Move compost to one side to create a hole for your plant. Place plant in hole and firm down compost. Repeat untill your basket is full.

8. Choose drought tollerant plants to fill your basket.

I recommend vibrant colours to show off your basket(s). Like the clashing colours of Lewisia and clusters of Sempervivum.

9. Hang your basket with pride in a prominent place in the garden.

This basket is perfect for holiday makers and forgetful gardeners or for those of us who just like something a bit unusual.

If you like this basket but dont have the time to make it yourself why not give me a call on 01925 757827 I would be pleased to make one up for you.

Good Luck and have fun making your basket

TIP - To plant a larger plant through a smaller space.......
Firstly, wrap a piece of plastic around the head of the plant and carefully support and pull the plastic and plant through the concealed whole of basket.

TIP - As you layer the plants and foliage make sure you rotate the basket as it balances the foliage, colour and texture of the planted basket.

Your choice is your own, whether it is two or three simple coulours or a multi colour of texture and colour ....
